I have worked many jobs in my life. Over 43 jobs.
There’s one rule I live by at any job:
I Do NOT EAT food made by fellow employees.
Even if it’s a pie. 🍰
I’m from the Midwest, so a potluck is common. That said, every job has some form of a potluck: Perhaps somebody’s birthday. A Friday meeting. I don’t know, but if one of your fellow employees brings in someting they made, maybe a casserole, perhaps a cake …
Do Not Eat That Food
Even if it’s a pie! 🍰
First of all, am I supposed to just believe that these derelict co-workers of mine have the best instinct when it comes to food safety? Tommy in accounting? I should trust his tuna salad? I should trust his food handling skills? He doesn’t even wash his hands after using the toilet. And that’s the truth.
But for me, it’s about trust, which I just don’t have when it comes to co-workers.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
89% of workers at any job DO NOT want to be there.
23% of those workers are ready to snap at any moment.
Then there’s the 2%. Those are the folks that wouldn’t mind poisoning you and your entire team given the chance. Especially the boss.
I’m not saying they want to kill you, in particular. They want to kill everybody. Or just make you sick.
They hate their jobs, and they hate having to make food for their jobs. They cannot be trusted, and it’s impossible to know which one they are.
The most likely poisoner is the guy who smiles at you.
Maybe it won’t be a killing poison, but maybe it will be. Regardless, I don’t want anything to do with food brought in to pass around by somebody holding on by a thread.
If I’m going to be poisoned, I’d rather have it done by somebody who actually hates me. Like a family member I haven’t seen in a while. Not somebody who just hates their job and snapped in the kitchen making cookies last night.
Heed my warning. Or don’t. What do I care?
Just know that I’m not eating the food you brought into work.
Even if it’s pie. 🍰
